Our Commitment

Royal Gorge Rafting is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards to ensure we provide equal access to all users.

Conformance Status

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and more user-friendly for everyone. The guidelines have three levels of accessibility (A, AA, and AAA). We have chosen Level AA as our target.

Measures We Take

Royal Gorge Rafting takes the following measures to ensure accessibility:

• Skip to content link: A “Skip to main content” link is provided at the top of every page for keyboard users.
• Semantic HTML: We use proper heading hierarchy, landmark regions, and semantic HTML5 elements throughout the site.
• Alternative text: All meaningful images include descriptive alt text. Decorative images are marked with empty alt attributes or aria-hidden.
• Color contrast: Text and interactive elements maintain a minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text, in accordance with WCAG 2.1 AA requirements.
• Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements are accessible via keyboard. Focus indicators are visible on all focusable elements.
• ARIA labels: We use ARIA attributes where necessary to provide additional context for screen readers, particularly for interactive components and navigation.
• Responsive design: The site is fully responsive and usable at all zoom levels up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
• Form accessibility: All form inputs have associated labels. Required fields are clearly indicated. Error messages are descriptive and associated with their respective fields.
• Reduced motion: We respect the prefers-reduced-motion media query and disable animations for users who prefer reduced motion.
• Focus management: We use visible focus rings (gold outline) on all interactive elements when navigating with a keyboard.
• Link purpose: All links have clear, descriptive text that makes sense out of context. We avoid generic “click here” text.
• Page titles: Every page has a unique, descriptive title that helps users understand the page content and their location within the site.

Assistive Technology Compatibility

Our website is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:

• Screen readers (VoiceOver, NVDA, JAWS)
• Screen magnification software
• Speech recognition software
• Keyboard-only navigation
• Switch access devices

Our site is tested in the following browsers:

• Chrome (latest)
• Firefox (latest)
• Safari (latest)
• Edge (latest)

Known Limitations

While we strive for full WCAG 2.1 AA compliance, some content may not yet be fully accessible:

• Third-party content: Some embedded content from third-party services (booking widgets, maps, social media feeds) may not fully meet accessibility standards. We work with these providers to improve accessibility.
• PDF documents: Some older PDF documents may not be fully accessible. We are working to update these documents. Contact us for accessible alternatives.
• Video content: We are in the process of adding captions and audio descriptions to all video content.

Physical Accessibility

We strive to make our adventure experiences as inclusive as possible. While whitewater rafting, zipline, and helicopter activities have certain physical requirements for safety reasons, we are happy to discuss accommodations and options for guests with disabilities. Please contact us in advance to discuss your needs and we will do our best to find a suitable adventure experience for you.
